Carla Harmath, MD, is the Section Chief of Abdominal Imaging at the University of Chicago. She has expertise in abdominal MRI, CT, US with focus on oncologic and transplant imaging. Her approach is one of collaborative and multidisciplinary clinical focus that has direct impact on patient management. Dr. Harmath is an active participant of several multidisciplinary conferences in abdominal and pelvic imaging, including liver tumor and metabolic diseases, organ transplant, genitourinary oncology and gastrointestinal oncology. Dr. Harmath is actively involved in resident and staff education, with emphasis on cutting-edge knowledge, constructive discussions and challenging the status quo, thus promoting understanding and innovation. Her didactic resident conferences focus on interactive learning with unconventional simulations of disease processes and pattern recognition. Dr. Harmath is a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committees and serves as the diversity liaison between the hospital Biological Sciences Division and the Radiology Department. She is an elected member-at-large of the Faculty Practice Board at the University of Chicago. Her efforts promote a diverse and equal work environment fostering opportunities for underserved minorities, enriching the workforce with the goal of maximizing gains from each other’s differences.
