Why is Radiology important?

As a radiologist, you truly make a difference as the first one to make a diagnosis and help other doctors in improving patient care.

Biography

Dr. Sheela Konda is the regional mammography director for AMITA Health serving Bolingbrook, Hinsdale, La Grange, and Glen Oaks.  She was also previously the Radiology Department Chairman for Bolingbrook Hospital.  Her interests are in breast imaging and has been invited to speak at both local, national, and international meetings on this topic, most recently at a Global Health Summit in India last Summer.  She has also written papers and abstracts on various aspects of tumor imaging.  Dr. Konda has presented talks to women who want to know more about breast health during community women's forum events and to other physicians and mammography technologists during continuing medical education events. Her goal is to educate her patients on all aspects of breast imaging, dense breasts and to be not afraid to talk to their breast radiologist.  She graduated in the top 3% of her class from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Summa Cum Laude where she received her Bachelor of Science in Honors Biology.  She also attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Medical Scholars Program where she obtained a combined MD and PhD and was inducted in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society as a Junior Inductee. She was the recipient of a leadership award for an outstanding student in the MD/PhD program and also as one of the top 3 graduating medical students.  She was mentored in her undergraduate research and portions of her graduate work by Nobel Laureate Dr. Paul Lauterbur who was crucial in inventing the MRI that is widely used in medical imaging.  Dr. Konda received her diagnostic radiology training at the University of Chicago where she received the Hodges research award and served as Chief Resident.  She also has obtained additional subspecialty training in Breast Imaging at Northwestern Prentice Women's Hospital.  She has been at her current position as a Diagnostic Radiologist with Suburban Radiologists for over 10 years.
